- Abstract
Béla Szarka, a Hungarian Research Agronomist, passed away at the age of 59 due to aggressive brain cancer. He had a successful career in crop biotechnology, particularly in corn breeding. Szarka worked at the Cereal Research Non-Profit Ltd and later joined Pioneer Hi-Bred, where he established a field testing research station and made significant contributions to the company. He then returned to Cereal Research Ltd as the Managing Director, where he introduced new research equipment and expanded the company's market presence. Szarka was also known for his athletic pursuits and various talents. His contributions to cereal breeding and biotechnology, as well as his impact on the seed industry and agriculture, are remembered by his colleagues and loved ones.
