- Title
A Piece not the Puzzle: Genetics and Affirmations of Taíno Identity Among Puerto Ricans.
- Authors
GONZÁLEZ, CHRISTINA
- Abstract
The article provides an overview of the history of Taíno as the common name for pre-Columbian indigenous Arawakan Peoples of the Greater Antilles and Puerto Rico. Studies suggest that early colonists, unmarried Spanish men who arrive in the Caribbean islands, fathered mixed children with the Taíno women. The view of Taíno cultural absorption into mixed nation is the narrative of the extinction of Taíno where the people were annihilated through warfare and slavery.
