- Abstract
A series of significant changes experienced in Ottoman cultural history during the reign of grand vizier Nevsehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasha (1718-1730). Ottomans started to put emphasis on the diplomatic relations with European states. As a result of diplomatic relations with Europe, many ambassadorial ceremonies took place in Istanbul. Along with these changes, Istanbul witnessed numerous important architectural transformations. Besides, the first official printing press was established by the Ottoman state. In addition, Ottomans started to build up independent library buildings in Istanbul. All of these cultural changes were closely kept track by the Ottoman's contemporary political counterparts. The aim of this study is to reveal these tracks. For this purpose, this paper focuses on 18th century British Newspapers with the news about the Ottoman cultural developments during the reign of grand vizier Nevsehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasha.
