Method: this is a quantitative, cross-sectional study, carried out by means of form for the socioeconomic characterization and clinical and instrument of Zarit Burden Interview for assessment of workload. Fifty-one informal caregivers of two Family Health Strategies (FHS) composed the sample, and the results presented by means of statistical data in figures and tables. Results: we found a high prevalence of burden among caregivers (82%), which presented a statistically significant association with age (p- 0.003) and the support of the Family Health Strategy to the caregiver (p- 0.028). Conclusion: it proves by the results the importance of professionals in formal support to the caregiver, thus subsidizing the planning of actions of nursing intervention for the binomial elderly/caregiver.
