- Abstract
The article discusses the development of the National Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Registry in the U.S. to quantify the prevalence of the disease. Topics covered include the passage of the ALS Registry Act by the Congress in 2008 to create a national enrollment web portal, the two-pronged approach used to identify new and existing ALS cases, and the use of the registry as a patient recruiting source for clinical trials and epidemiological studies.
