- Authors
Kuehn, Bridget M.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the new programs started by the medical institution in the U.S. that aims for treating Tropical Diseases in the area. It reflects that the clinic at National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine routinely sees patients with diseases such as Chagas disease, cysticercosis, and leishmaniasis. According to Peter J. Hotez, dean of tropical medicine at Baylor the combination of extreme poverty and climate in the southern part of the state creates a kind of environment that would foster the presence of neglected tropical diseases. It informs that the school and its clinic will help to gather data about the modes of transmission of disease and will also help to raise awareness about neglected diseases in the U.S.
