- Title
Metamaterials: Turning a negative into a positive.
- Authors
Ying, Jackie Y.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the negative refractive index engineering of metamaterials using periodic structures by bottom-up self-assembly synthesis. It says that refraction of light in the reverse direction at the interface between a conventional refractive index material and a negative refractive index material was hypothesized by Victor Veselago, who first proposed metamaterials in 1968. It says that after the publication of the first demonstration in 2000 and 2001 of artificial material that produced negative index of refraction, many metamaterials have been formed using top-down approaches. It also presents the proposed bottom-up strategy of Ulrich Wiesner and colleagues using self-assembly synthesis.
