- Abstract
The article explores the contribution of composer, music theorist and teacher Milton Babbitt to U.S. music. It recognizes Babbitt as a pioneer of modern music theory and electronic music. It compares Babbitt's principles of composition with those of other composers. In addition, the article discusses the experience of Babbitt in teaching music at Princeton University in New Jersey and the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.
