- Abstract
Iran is one of the richest and most complex regions in western Asia from a biodiversity point of view. A range of taxa and modeling approaches were used to understand the distributions of amphibians and reptiles and the mismatch of diversity hotspots and protected areas in the country; an economically relevant small insect species was modeled to assess its vulnerability status, as well as mangrove crabs representing important indicator taxa for fragile mangrove ecosystems. Further, two global hotspots of biodiversity are located in Iran: the Irano-Anatolian and the Caucasus hotspots.
