- Title
HUMAN RIGHTS AND IDENTITY -- HUMAN IDENTITIES AND RIGHTS.
- Authors
Macdonald, Roderick A.
- Abstract
The 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an occasion both to assess the symbolic significance of the document and to explore its meaning for Canadians. Too much contemporary reflection on the Declaration implicitly presumes that it is meant for foreign countries and that its message is not powerfully relevant for Canada. This brief essay uses five vignettes of the past few years as reminders that we should not be so quick to dismiss the Declaration's message for our own practices.
