- Abstract
This study presents the results of a research whose purpose has been to determine the most frequently used nexion and junction techniques in five sports news stories published in the Mexican newspaper El Universal. Following the proposals of Raible (1992 and 2001) and Lehmann (2004), the study showed that the most common nexion techniques were those that designate a concrete specific relationship of temporality, space and means or inclusion. Moreover, the junction techniques most commonly found in the corpus were those that use simple prepositions + noun phrases and those that use prepositional structures + noun phrases or infinitive phrases. The results show that the nexion and junction techniques are regularly used by the authors of the sports news stories for the purpose of uniting clauses in their texts.
