An essay is presented on the historical social attitudes surrounding the book "The Well of Loneliness" by Radclyffe Hall. The book was indicted and censored because of its theme of lesbianism. Information about the legal process of having it banned as well as Hall's feelings about the situation is provided. Historical analysis of the societal reaction of the book in the U.S. is also provided.
