- Abstract
The article presents an exploration into the history of Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland and its biological warfare research programs. A brief overview of the fort's history from 1727 to the 1940s is given, highlighting its various uses by different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The development of the base as a weapons research center is described from World War II onward. Several of the buildings and facilities housed at the base are also profiled.
