- Abstract
The article discusses the professionalization of venture capital in the U.S. It examines the involvement of the U.S. government in venture capital via the establishment of agencies such as the U.S. Department of Commerce's Small Business Unit and the War Production Board (WPB) during World War II. It also discusses the founding of the venture capital association known as American Research and Development (ARD), the creation of Small Business Investment Corporations (SIBCs) by the U.S. Congress, and private equity firms.
