- Abstract
The article presents an overview of the interactions and impressions of the Native American tribes of eastern Colorado at the time of initial American exploration in the early 19th-century. Accounts are given of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Comanche tribes in their relations with American frontier settlers and with formal military expeditions from the writings of Zebulon M. Pike, Stephen H. Long, Henry Dodge, and others. The demographics, migrations and general history of each tribe within the region are discussed separately.
