- Authors
Halliday, Hugh A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the crashing of the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF'S) Lancaster bomber plane KB914 while enroute from Keflavik, Iceland to Goose Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador. The role of severe weather, including extreme cold and snow, in the crash are explained by the author. The author provides information on the crew that was on board the bomber during the flight and crash. Search and rescue efforts carried out by the RCAF are described, as is the investigation into the causes of the crash. The author examines the possibility that the pilot's decision to shut off the bomber's two inboard engines could have contributed to the accident.
