- Abstract
In this work, production of tall oil biodiesel and usability as alternative fuel for diesel engine were studied. Tall oil is a by-product in the pulp manufacturing by craft or sulphate pulping process. Fatty acids and resinic acids were distilled from crude tall oil by fractional distillation. Tall oil methyl ester (biodiesel) was produced from tall oil fatty acids. Blend of 90% tall oil biodiesel and 10% diesel fuel for test fuel was evaluated. It was tested between 1800 and 3200 rpm at full load-different engine speeds in a single cylinder direct injection diesel engine. According to diesel fuel value, torque and power output of the engine with blend fuel decreased by 2.99% and 2.94%, respectively. Average increasing of the blend fuel's specific fuel consumption value was 7.63%. Using of tall oil biodiesel decreased emissions of CO (up to 35.44%) and smoke (up to 13.27%), however, emissions of NOx increased by 13.29%.
