The article talks about the term "queer" and its importance to the western American cultural and literary studies. Topics discussed include the terms "queer" and "queer theory" as poststructuralist formations; the Indigenous peoples and practices that are rendered queer by Anglo-American social norms; and the work of queer Indigenous studies scholar Mark Rifkin on Indigenous kinship formations. Also mentioned is the importance of sexuality in the critique of U.S. settler colonialism.
