- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Oregon and California in 1848" by J. Quinn Thornton is presented. It outlines the characters of the Donner Party, especially William Eddy and Lewis Keseberg, and explores the symbolic significance of these characters. It examines the figures of speech describing manhood in the narratives regarding the Donner Party experience. An overview of the story is also given.
