MURRAH, ERIN
- Abstract
An essay is presented on a speech given by Miguel A. Otero Jr., the first Nuevomexicano governor of the New Mexico Territory. The speech was given at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904 and presented ideas about statehood and the role of Nuevomexicanos in the colonizing of New Mexico. The essay explores Otero's use of rhetoric and his description of history through a non-white racial lens.
