- Abstract
Timmermann C. Pedersen B. Use of art in nurse training Sygeplejersken 2009:(14):54-8.The article describes how gaining an understanding of selected art forms can stimulate learning and personal growth amongst students of nursing -which is crucial for the interpersonal dimension of nursing. Tile article focuses on how art can be used in theoretical aspects of nurse training. Use of art is viewed as a method and a supplement to more traditional forms of teaching, in which theories and results of research form the basis for learning. The central message is that by gaining an understanding of art. it becomes possible to sharpen the ability - and thereby competency - in being open to other people's experiences and values. Art can express diversity in humans' experience of what is real and meaningful for the individual - and it triggers an inner, reflective journey, which results in an interchange between us and another person.Use of art as the starting point for learning and personal growth in students of nursing has, therefore, been shown to be Significant in terms of development of the interpersonal dimension of nursing practice.
