- Authors
Luebke, Barbara F.
- Abstract
This article comments on "first woman" stories by journalists in the U.S. Although there has been increased attention in recent years to images of women in American media, there remains relatively little research that documents wisdom that "women and women's issues are treated idiosyncratically when they are treated at all. Women's reality and the images of women in the news continue to be at odds. This essay also explore another facet of those media images. The lengths to which journalists go to emphasize "first woman" status is an indication of how strong the inclination to such labeling is. A compilation of "first stories" in presented.
