- Abstract
This document is a reply to a comment made on an article about extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and positioning in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The authors acknowledge the concerns raised about study quality and missing data, but state that these issues were addressed in the discussion section of their paper. They also explain that a randomized trial comparing ECMO to prone positioning in severe ARDS is unlikely due to ethical considerations and practical challenges. The authors assert that their study provides the best estimates of the relative efficacy of ECMO, prone positioning, and low tidal volume for severe ARDS.
