- Abstract
This article focuses on the dramatic theory and work of the Polish director and playwright Jerzy Grotowski along with his colleague Thomas Richards. Grotowski's evolving theories and practices are highlighted, citing their challenge for theatrical historians to precisely classify the artist and his techniques. An overview of the various phases of Grotowski's artistic philosophy and work is provided, including paratheatre, objective drama, and other moves from traditional to more representative avant-garde forms.
