- Abstract
This article focuses on the performative political aspects of the 1999 International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and its proceedings over Slobodan Milošević for crimes against humanity. The significance of the publicity of the trial, particularly its depiction as a live event for viewing of the general public, is discussed in detail. Milošević's and the ICTY's use of soliciting approval from perceived audiences is analyzed. The additional elements of narrative construction and testimonial empathy are also explored.
