- Abstract
This letter, published in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell & Molecular Biology, discusses the measurement of right ventricular (RV) function in rodents. The authors highlight the importance of accurately measuring RV function in order to understand and develop treatments for severe pulmonary hypertension. They compare single-beat and multiple-beat measurements of RV function in rats with RV failure induced by chronic pulmonary artery banding (PAB), and find that the single-beat method is a feasible and attractive alternative to traditional multibeat approaches. However, they note that the single-beat method may not be successful in all cases and that further research is needed to validate these findings in other models of RV failure.
