- Abstract
The article compares the original version of the Japanese play "Kinjiki," starring Hijikata Tatsumi and Ohno Yoshito with "Kinjiki," directed by Itoh Kim performed at the Setagaya Public Theatre. The contribution of Mishima Yukio to the history of the Japanese modern dance butoh is discussed. The manner in which Itoh came close to the birth of butoh then immediately distance himself from it is described. The article also covers Itoh's avoidance of both suggestive and symbolic movements and his emphasis on strong visual accents.
