- Abstract
The article presents an interview with Abdulrazak Gurnah, the associate chief editor of the African studies journal "Wasafiri" and chair of the Department of English at the University of Kent, Canterbury in Great Britain. The interview is about the politics of defining literary canon in East Africa, how East Africa fits into discussions of the African Diaspora, the status of area studies and the impact of Islam in the region.
