- Abstract
The article discusses the author's personal experiences as a U.S. Foreign Service officer in Gdańsk and Warsaw, Poland. His interactions with Polish poet and Nobel Laureate Czesław Miłosz are described. The author also describes brief visits he took to various European cities while traveling to Poland. The interactions between the U.S. and Polish staff at the Consulate General in Gdańsk are analyzed. The rise of a communist government in Poland following the close of World War II is detailed by the author.
