- Abstract
Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common neoplasms that affect the head and neck area, in order to considerably reduce the quality of life of patients affected by this pathology, since their phonatory capacity may be compromised. For the most part, laryngeal cancer presents as main factors alcoholism and smoking, being associated with signs and symptoms of hoarseness, dysphagia and pain. The case reported concerns a 57-year-old male patient who underwent surgery to remove the larynx due to cancer in the laryngeal region caused by smoking. The patient in question went through the entire clinical process, receiving adequate assistance from the multidisciplinary health team, which included physicians, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists and speech therapists. Through the joint and organized work of the multidisciplinary team, the patient managed to recover his phonatory capacity and his quality of life. Therefore, the objective of this case report is to describe the rehabilitation case of a patient who underwent total laryngectomy and its impacts, emphasizing the importance of the multidisciplinary work of health teams in patient care.
