- Abstract
Neuropathic pain is a complex entity, considered the pain that most deteriorates the quality of life of patients, becoming a public health problem, and the control of this pain must take into account the biological, psychological and sociodemographic determinants, as well as the lifestyle of patients. This analytical, observational and crosssectional study aimed to analyze the lifestyle and quality of life of patients who attend a Pain Clinic. Sixty-two patients with chronic pain participated in the study with a mean age of 56.2 and standard deviation of 12.9 years, most of them were female (60%), 64%(n=40) were married, 80%(n=50) with children and, as for education, the highest percentage of patients 47%(n=29) were in elementary school and most of them were away from work 52%(n=32). The quality of life was negatively affected (=50) expressing greater impact on the subdomains physical, daily activities and ability to work. Regarding lifestyle, identified in most patients a "regular" lifestyle (n=38), with the activity and nutrition components self-perceived negatively. When correlating the components of lifestyle with quality of life a strong correlation was revealed, indicating that the low level of activity and the amount of alcohol ingested associated with a worse quality of life in the physical, social relations and environment domains. In this study patients with chronic neuropathic pain showed that the level of activity and the presence of alcohol compromised their lifestyle. Given these results, this research concludes that the quality of life of patients with chronic neuropathic pain must be valued, facing a comprehensive care, valuing pain as a conditioner of QL and contemplating the lifestyle of each population, because this will bring scientific knowledge for the directions of actions to occur efficiently.
