- Abstract
The article discusses what are referred to as the destructive-labor camps of the Soviet Union's Gulag, including the forced manual labor and the prison conditions at the camps. An overview of the Soviet leader Joseph (Iosif) Stalin, including in regard to the Stalinist policy of releasing emaciated and enfeebled prisoners to reduce labor camp mortality rates, is provided.
