- Authors

- Abstract
World energy prices have increased significantly in the last several years. These increasing costs impact the overall manufacturing costs of industrial operations and their ability to be profitable. At the same time, there is societal pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To address these forces, every company should have an energy management program. In this paper, the key elements of an energy management program will be addressed using examples from the aluminum metals industry. In particular, the elements of process identification, data collection, data analysis, project selection, implementation, and communications will be reviewed. The size and degree of sophistication of such a program will be dependent upon the magnitude of the energy costs and the resources available to address the issues.
