- Abstract
The article examines ideas on environmentalism and the allegorical narratives in novels written by Chinese author Zhang Wei. Particular focus is given to the novels "Jiuyue Yuyan" (September Allegory) and "Ciwei Ge" (The Song of Hedgehog). It is said that Zhang's works emphasize the impact of natural environment on human civilization. Zhang's concepts of daziran or Great Nature and yedi or the wild land are discussed. "The Song of Hedgehog" provides an allegorical depiction of industrialism and commercialization, which are claimed to ruin Great Nature.
