- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to review issues concerning judicial responsibility and accountability taking account of the progressive extension and importance of the judicial role in contemporary constitutional democracies, including the judicial contribution to law-making through case law. The question at the outset is whether this remarkable extension of the jurisdictional powers should imply a corresponding expansion of its responsibility or some change in the formulae for demanding responsibility. To answer this question, the first part of this text deals with the phenomenon of the progressive expansion of the role of the judge, the second part examines the variety of agible formulae for the demand for responsibility of the judge (disciplinary, civil, deontological), to offer, in the third part, some concluding reflections.
