- Abstract
The study determined the effects of different lysine, arginine level and amino acid balance on broilers heat production (HP). A total of 10 mature broilers were assigned to dietary treatments of different lysine (Lys) and arginine (Arg) ratios (low, medium, high) in a 3 x 3 factorial design. Carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) heat production (HP) were detected for 24 hours. CO2 production was significantly higher (P < 0.01) in Lys and Arg ratios. CH4 had no significant difference (P>0.05) for both Lys and Arg diets. Increasing Lys concurrently increased HP. CO2 production was significantly high (P < 0.001) during night and early morning (18:00-6:00) but decreased significantly (P < 0.001) from 6:00-12:00. Results demonstrated that high Lys and Arg increased CO2 and HP and time of day influences total heat and gas production. Interaction between Lys and Arg ratios was significantly different (P < 0.001) for CO2 and HP. Balancing amino acid can improve broiler performance and produce less GHG emissions.
