- Abstract
The Radio Frequency (RF) and Free Space Optical (FSO) hybrid communication system concept is an innovative communication system concept proposed by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of United States to provide directional, high speed, and broadband data link for airborne platform and support high speed and wideband communication application such as airborne backbone network. So far the hybrid communication concept has accomplished concept demonstration and a family of system demonstration and test. This paper summarizes the research progress of U. S. military airborne optical and RF hybrid communication system, analyzes related key technologies, points out development trend, and finally provides some enlightenments and suggestions.
