- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the professionalization of modern parapsychology and explores the contributions made to the field by British psychologist William McDougall. The article discusses the impact that McDougall had on his mentor psychologist Joseph Banks Rhrine, whose work at Duke University in the 1930s is often credited as the earliest in modern professional parapsychology. It discusses the context during which McDougall conducted his work and explores why McDougall's work is often overlooked when discussing the history of parapsychology.
