- Abstract
The buffer zone of the Guatapé Playas hydroelectric complex is located in eastern Antioquia, with a predominance of anthropic cover such as clean pastures, crops, and mosaics, and forest fragments concentrated in EPM properties. Understanding the negative effects that erosive processes cause to natural environments is of utmost importance in designing conservation, preservation, and management strategies to prevent erosive processes. Erosion susceptibility was calculated in the study areas in the current scenario and in future deforestation and reforestation scenarios, using Geographic Information Systems and an equation adjusted through the Hierarchical Analysis Process based on a mathematical model derived from the USLE Equation. This enables the evaluation of environmental variables such as vegetation cover, precipitation, runoff, slopes and soils taken into account in the estimation of erosion susceptibility. Currently, 47.93% of the buffer zone of the Guatapé Playas complex is highly susceptible. By simulating a negative future scenario of deforestation in the area, we found an increase in this category to 70.10%. Meanwhile, in a scenario of reforestation of riparian forests in the entire buffer zone and forest management in EPM properties, the high susceptibility to erosion decreased to 43.56%. This highlights the role played by forests in reducing susceptibility to erosion in the study area and the importance of implementing strategies for forest cover conservation and recovery and thus reduce possible sedimentation processes in the reservoir.
