- Abstract
Weed dermatitis affects the exposed skin surfaces not usually covered by clothing, and clinically resembles photodermatitis. Plants responsible for weed dermatitis are members of the Compositae family of plants. Owing to regional differences in clinical exposure and sensitivity, other extracts may be used if the diagnosis is strongly suspected and the above tests are negative. Extracts should be applied to the skin and allowed to dry. These extracts, notably Cocklebur, can produce irritant reactions in some patients at some times. These extracts are recommended for aimed patch testing in suspected cases.
