Regulatory Authority Issues New Information Guidance on Decumulation Products.
- Authors
March, Abigail
- Abstract
The Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Ontario has issued new information guidance on decumulation products. These products are financial products designed to provide retirement income based on life expectancy, but they are not insurance or pension plans and do not have the same level of regulatory protection. The guidance identifies two categories of uninsured decumulation products: regular payments for life and future payments (tontine). Consumers are advised to consult with professionals before investing in these products. The document also discusses misleading marketing and the different legal frameworks that govern decumulation products, insurance contracts, and pension plans.
