- Abstract
Ten women (mean age 28 yrs old) with enlarged pelvic masses (>15 cm), scheduled to be operated, were examined by ultrasonography, 24 hours before surgery, by a less experienced sonographer (level 2) as well as by an expert. Histology showed that one tumour was truly an ovarian cancer, stage 1A, the second a borderline ovarian tumour and the third a STUMP tumour originating from the uterus. Ultrasound examination of huge pelvic masses in young women demanding the preservation of their fertility profile is still challenging.
