- Abstract
The rapid aging of the population and the steady increase in human longevity, represent one of the greatest social, cultural, economic and political of our time, especially in developed countries (Neugarten, 1999) transformations, and as a result, the population aging has become one of the most important challenges of modern societies. As Juarez (1997) stated "the aging population constitutes a new socio-political phenomenon that worries the developed societies". For this reason, the emergence of political initiatives capable of responding to different social demands but which in turn safeguard the rights of older people focusing their actions on the concept of Active Ageing necessary. Older people represent an important capital and a fundamental pillar of our developed societies. And you cannot ignore the relevance acquires the maintenance of social protection, because as Lorenzo (2004) states passivity of governments towards change could mean the collapse of the welfare state. Change in economic relations between savings, investment and consumption, labor markets are modified and downsizing of pensions and intergenerational transfers (Kornblit, Camarotti & Guelman, 2015) is imposed. And in this sense, the present research, aims to deepen the debate on aging in Spain, from a political and social perspective. For that, a broad view of the theoretical framework of aging is provided through a summary of the regulatory, political and social context of this, and the importance of "the idea that the human person must be the necessary center of thought political and social "(Bastos, 2006).
