- Abstract
The article focuses on a study that explores the significance of inhibitory surrounds for neural mechanisms. It is noted that the study indicated that the channel nonlinearities can have strong effects on the observed linear behavioral receptive field however, preserves the inhibitory surrounds. Furthermore, the results revealed that a strategy to optimize detection of signals in natural scenes reflect the apparent suboptimality of inhibitory surrounds.
