- Abstract
Our unsustainable human habitat demands urgent reconsideration. Bio-integrated design (Bio-ID) is the method we have developed, based on the incorporation of living systems into our material and speculative practice. Bio-ID is the result of an endosymbiosis of architecture and biochemical engineering, resulting in a design approach that is equipped with the functionality of each discipline. We seek to embed the regenerative properties of microbial ecology through a number of processes such as bioreceptivity, bioremediation and bioresponsiveness. Multi-layered outputs of this process propose alternative ways of creating, and sustaining, our build environment.
