- Title
"More Life" and More: Harold Bloom, the J Writer, and the Archaic Judaism of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America."
- Authors
Pederson, Joshua
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented for the play "Angels in America" by Tony Kushner. It finds the source of Kushner's vision of dynamic Judaism in "The Book of J," critic Harold Bloom's interpretation of one of the voices thought to have authored the Torah narrative. It argues that Kushner sees 21st century Judaism as dominated by stultifying ritual and instead seeks to reconnect with the politically progressive dynamism of Diasporic Judaism, which he finds in purer form in the J narrative.
