Presents a report on the implementation of the WNV nucleic acid-amplification tests (NATs) to screen donations of blood for the West Nile Virus by blood collection agencies in the United States during the WNV epidemic of 2003. Description of the performance of national blood donation screening and documentation of the first transfusion-associated WNV transmissions identified in 2003; Details of surveillance and testing activities; Case reports involving a man in Texas and a man in Nebraska.
