- Abstract
This document provides information on the use of chloride ion titration as a method for teaching quantitative analysis in schools. It discusses the safety concerns associated with using toxic potassium chromate as an indicator and proposes using phosphate as a safer alternative. The text explains the dynamics of precipitation reactions and the factors that influence the solubility of salts. It also introduces the Mohr titration method and discusses the properties of various silver salts that can be used as substitutes for silver chromate. The goal is to find a suitable substitute for silver chromate that can reliably indicate the equivalence point in a titration. Sodium phosphate is suggested as a safe alternative for chloride ion titration, but it is not suitable for the quantitative determination of bromide and iodide ions.
