- Abstract
Non-invasive mechanic ventilation (NIV) is an alternative ventilation support whose function is to optimize gaseous exchange and reduce the respiration efforts of individuals. To characterize the profile of patients who utilized NIV in the years 2008 and 2009. Critical analysis of data referring to gender, race, age, illness, time of use, symptoms and clinical signs found in the cardio-respiratory records of patients who utilized VNI at Hospital Memorial de Maringá. Epidemiologic profile is: women (53%), caucasian (49%) above 60years of age (79%) who have utilized VNI for less than 3 sessions (84%) and having as main symptom auscultation noisy (40%) and as most common illness pneumonia (30%) were the most used NIV.
