- Abstract
This article reviews the reception of decadentism in Spanish literature of Modernism, specifically in the novel "El monstruo" (1915) by Antonio de Hoyos y Vinent. The Madrid-born author managed to combine narrative experimentation with the expectations of the publishing market at the time, creating a decadent proposal in terms of themes, structure, and style. The novel shows the influence of authors such as Octave Mirbeau and his novel "Le Jardin des Supplices" (The Torture Garden). The article seeks to analyze the figure of Hoyos y Vinent beyond the scandals of his life, focusing on his literary work and his affiliation with decadent Modernism.
